The first season of the PlayStation adaptation led by Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal infected HBO earlier this year.
It's hard to believe we're almost at the end of the year, but 2023 has been great for television. It all started with HBO's The Last of Us in January. The series based on the popular video game series took the world by storm thanks to its stellar performances, authenticity to the original, and mixing Great mix of emotional storytelling and horror. The series was quickly renewed for season 2 after its stellar success at HBO, and fans of the game know exactly what that means. Abby will soon be heading our way, and even though we're in the middle of an epic attack, the titular villain has been chosen.
In a more extensive interview with Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin told the Los Angeles Times:
"Once the series resumes production, there will be a lot of important questions regarding the second season, such as who will play Abby, Ellie's new rival character." LAT would later confirm that the role had been cast, but apparently, with the strike currently unresolved, fans will have to wait and see who will actually play her.
There will be no spoilers mentioned here regarding the character of Abby for those who haven't played The Last of Us Part II, but part 2 promises to be even darker than the first part. That's as long as they follow through on the biggest turning point in game two, something Mazin has hinted at in the past. In season two, Abby is Ellie's main target in one of the darkest revenge plots ever written. Abby isn't a one-note "villain" either. Like the best characters in this post-apocalyptic universe, he is a complex, tragic and relatable human being, despite what some players will tell you online. That means Bella Ramsey and whoever plays Abby will have a lot of rich material to work with.
When is “The Last of Us” season 2 released?
Although AMPTP still refuses to accommodate the demands of the striking writers and actors, there is still no release date for the show's return as filming for the second season has yet to begin. However, once the strike is over, all signs point to season 2 being ready to start filming, so stay tuned to Collider for future updates. While we wait for more news from The Last of Us, you can find out who Abby is here and find out everything we know so far about season 2 here.
